Success Stories

HARRIETTE O'NEILL
Harriette was a former trainee at FWTC in 2000/2001. Below is an excerpt from an email we received from Harriette in February 2009.
After leaving FWTC I knew I had to carry on with my self development. I applied for a place at Lincoln University and started a Degree in Child and Youth Studies, which I graduated with honours.
....following this I decided to take an adult teaching course for a year - this gave me an opportunity to work at the local College part-time whilst I was still training.
I then applied to the University of Leeds to do a Masters in Gender Studies. By the time I graduated in 2006 I had received a scholarship for a Doctorate in Human Geography and am currently doing a study about Intergenerational relationships amongst women in Yorkshire. I am now in my final year, and hope to find a permanent job in academia afterwards.
When people ask me why I have taken the path I have, I often say that FWTC pushed a "self development" button in me that's stuck. It's not been easy but there are very few things I'd change about my life at the moment.
I remember in one of the Personal Development sessions having to get dressed up and do a mock interview and I was very nervous.....now I think nothing of giving a presentation to a conference room full of academics who are not as encouraging or as patient as you were.
So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you - your kindness will never be forgotten".
